The title of the exhibition, Soft Circles, refers to the boundaries of communication that humans possess—or communication itself. In contemporary society, while we can easily access information about one another, the feelings of unfamiliarity and fear often precede the act of directly encountering and welcoming others. At this moment, when many personal stories remain unspoken and pass by unheard, the two artists seek to engage with strangers in diverse places, to acknowledge each other’s presence, and to collect the narratives of relationships that connect us. The private experiences of individuals within a community often reveal precious aspects that are frequently overlooked in our society. Therefore, this exhibition places its significance in softening the rigid boundaries of communication in contemporary life, and proposes new ways of forming relationships that mediate communication with strangers.
